The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) considers a mouthguard to be an important protective appliance that children and adults are encouraged to wear consistently while participating in sports and physical activity. Many sports related injuries can be reduced or prevented by wearing the proper protective gear and a mouthguard is an important component that can help you avoid trips to the emergency room.
Injuries to the mouth, jaw and teeth can be very serious and these injuries can last a lifetime. Additionally, studies indicate that mouthguards reduce the prevalence of both jaw fracture and concussion.
Be sure to wear your mouthguard during your practices as well as your competitions. Mouthguards can be worn along with braces.
Ask Dr. Brilliant or Dr. Rothenberg for a recommendation as to the best option for you. Protect yourself, your mouth, jaw and your teeth by wearing a mouthguard customized especially for you!
